Wasim Akram is one of the most loved Pakistani cricketers and has a lot of admirers across the globe. The legendary pacer recently talked about an incident from 2009 when he was on a flight to Singapore, and his late wife needed immediate medical attention.

While talking to Star Sports about his autobiography “Sultan: A Memoir”, Akram revealed that once he and his late wife Huma Akram were on their way to Singapore in a flight which had to land in Chennai for refuelling. But as soon as the plane landed, he found out that Huma was unconscious. The 56-year-old veteran cricketer also admitted that he was heartbroken as he did not have an Indian visa at that point in time to take his late spouse to the hospital.

However, the Pakistan legend further disclosed that the Chennai airport officials called an ambulance and took his wife to the hospital despite him not having a valid visa.

“I was flying to Singapore with my late wife and there was a stop in Chennai for refuelling. When he landed, she was unconscious, I was crying and people recognized me at the airport. We didn’t have an Indian visa. We both had Pakistani passports. The people at the Chennai airport, the security forces, and the customs and immigration officials told me not to worry about the visa and take my wife to the hospital while they sort the visa out. That is something I will never forget, as a cricketer and as a human being,” revealed the former Pakistan skipper.

Notably, Huma passed away due to heart and kidney complications in 2009 at the age of 42 in Chennai.

Akram has represented Pakistan in 104 Test matches and 356 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), bagging 414 wickets in red-ball format and 502 in the 50-over format. The 1992 World Cup Winner is currently the head coach of the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023.
