The Mumbai batter fell victim to MS Dhoni’s tactical brilliance in the clash as he attempted a failed lap shot and ended up hitting it straight into the hands of Ravindra Jadeja, who was strategically positioned by Dhoni at backward point. Commentator and former India cricketer K Srikkanth was very unhappy with the bizarre way of Rohit’s dismissal and expressed his dissatisfaction by slamming the latter on-air.
Srikkanth launched a scathing attack on the 36-year-old MI batter on live TV and said: “Rohit Sharma should change his name to ‘NO HIT SHARMA’, I will not even play him in XI if I was Captain of MI.”
Notably, this was Rohit’s second consecutive duck in the season.
As far as the result of the match is concerned, Mumbai faced yet another setback and lost to Chennai by six wickets. Although Nehal Wadhera scored a brilliant 64 off 51 deliveries in the game, he unfortunately ended up on the losing side. Meanwhile, Piyush Chawla‘s two wickets for his team also went in vain.
Speaking of MI’s overall performance in the ongoing league, this was the Mumbai-based team’s fifth loss in ten matches, and they have now slipped to the sixth position of the IPL 2023 points table. Any further defeat from here will only narrow the chances of Mumbai reaching the IPL 2023 playoffs.
