Markram recently expressed his desire to share the dressing room with the former India captain and admitted that he would love to see Dhoni play in the SA20 league. The 28-year-old Proteas cricketer said that the veteran wicket-keeper’s experience could be very useful for the young talents in South Africa.
“To be honest with you, someone like MS (Dhoni) would be great to have in your camp just for the guys to be able to learn from him. He has got all the knowledge and seen everything that this game has produced. For our local players in South Africa to be able to spend time with someone like MS Dhoni would be great. That’s one that comes to my mind, firstly but there would be a lot of players that would be discussed for sure,” said Markram in a press conference.
Notably, Dhoni has led India to multiple World Cup triumphs and is the only skipper in the world to win all three major ICC trophies. The 41-year-old Ranchi cricketer has also clinched four Indian Premier League (IPL) titles for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise so far.
On the other hand, in the inaugural SA20 league, Markram guided Sunrisers Eastern cape to their maiden title and will next be seen leading SRH in the upcoming IPL edition, which starts from March 31.
Apart from Dhoni, Markram also talked about the possible vice-captain of SRH in the forthcoming IPL and said that it would be tough to choose between Mayank Agarwal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
“It’s a tough one. I have played under Mayank Agarwal at Kings for half a season. He and I got on really well. On the other hand, if you look at the amount of experience someone like Bhuvi has, it’s almost irreplaceable. So to pick one is a difficult one, right now. But both of them would nail it certainly,” added the South Africa cricketer.
