In a delightful blend of sports and entertainment, the recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) featured Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan and women’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana. Hosted by the legendary Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, the episode not only showcased Ishan and Smriti’s sporting knowledge but also revealed a playful and never-before-seen side of the duo.

The cricketer, known for his on-field prowess, playfully asked Amitabh about the most suitable title for his wife, Jaya Bachchan, from the actor’s illustrious filmography. The options presented by the Indian wicket-keeper included Khuda Gawah, Sarkar, Don and Shahenshah.

In response to Ishan’s query, Amitabh promptly and without hesitation chose “Sarkar,” evoking laughter from the audience. The charming exchange quickly went viral, giving fans a glimpse of the camaraderie between the sports and film worlds.

What made Ishan choose cricket as a career?​


Apart from the entertaining banter, Ishan also shared insights into his cricketing journey during the KBC episode. He revealed that his initial foray into cricket was a strategic move to avoid studies. Expressing his love for the game, Ishan even recalled insisting his father enrol him in cricket.

“I started playing cricket at the age of 7-8 years just to stay away from studies. I insisted my father to put me in cricket. I used to enjoy playing it. Then my coaches asked my father to let me concentrate on cricket; I had scope. I would play from Jharkhand under 16. Once, there was an open trial and I got selected from there,” said Ishan reflecting on his early days.

In recent years, Ishan has emerged as a consistent performer on the international cricket scene. With a remarkable tally of 61 matches across formats, he has amassed 1807 runs, showcasing his batting prowess. The young cricketer’s talent and dedication have not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by his recent retention by the Mumbai Indians franchise for the upcoming IPL 2024 season.
