As the cricketing world gears up for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 players’ auction, teams are meticulously planning their strategies to secure the best talents and build formidable squads. Among all the participating teams, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise is also likely to contemplate strategic adjustments in anticipation of the IPL 2024 player auction.

KKR’s subpar performance in IPL 2023

KKR are coming off a lacklustre campaign in IPL 2023, finishing seventh on the points table, and will surely be planning a strategic reshuffle by releasing certain players. On that note, here are five players who KKR may part ways in a bid to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.

Four foreign players that KKR might release

1) Tim Southee:

New Zealand pacer Tim Southee, despite being a proven performer, had a modest outing in IPL 2023. With only two matches and two wickets to his name, his contribution did not match his 1.5 crore valuation. KKR might consider releasing Southee to free up funds for potential game-changers in the auction.

2) Lockie Ferguson:

A big signing for KKR at 10 crores, Lockie Ferguson had a forgettable IPL 2023 season with just one wicket in three matches. The hefty price tag combined with a lack of impactful performances might prompt KKR to release the Kiwi pacer, aiming for a more effective and economical pace option in their lineup.

3) Litton Das:

Bangladeshi batter Litton Das had a blink-and-you-miss-it stint in IPL 2023, managing only four runs in a single match before returning home due to family reasons. Acquired for 50 lakhs, Das did not live up to expectations, and KKR might opt to release him to create space for a more consistent middle-order batter in the squad.

4) David Wiese:

Namibian all-rounder David Wiese failed to make a mark in the previous season, going wicketless in three matches despite his 1 crore price tag. KKR might look to release Wiese to invest in a more impactful all-rounder who can contribute with both bat and ball, providing the team with greater flexibility in their playing XI or on the bench.
