Veteran batter and middle-order specialist Ajinkya Rahane has made his comeback to the red-ball unit. Rahane, who is currently plying his trade for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, was dropped at the end of the 2021-22 tour of South Africa after a protracted run of low scores. However, injuries to key personnel and his own spectacular form in the ongoing 16th season of the cash-rich league, has offered him a window to make a comeback in the whites.
The team, featuring six specialist batsmen, including Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul, will be continued to captained by Rohit Sharma. Notably, the WTC final is scheduled to take place at The Oval from June 7 to 11, with a reserve day on June 12.
Earlier this week, Australia had also announced their squad for the WTC Final where Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Harris and Josh Inglis had earned recalls while David Warner secured his place.
India’s Test squad for WTC final:
Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat.
