However, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has been the exception as the talented left-arm pacer is often seen skipping IPL seasons to prioritize on his international career. Starc, who was the member of the 2015 ODI World Cup winning team and the 2021 T20 World Cup winning side, reckoned that he wants to represent his country in 100 Test matches.
“To choose not to do certain things to prolong playing for Australia, I’ve tried to be smart about that. Yeah, the money’s nice, but I’d love to play 100 Test matches. Whether I get there or not, I don’t know, but that would be a nice one to tick off. Hopefully, there’s a little bit left in me,” said Starc as quoted by cricket.com.au
Starc, who has taken 306 wickets in 77 Test matches for the Aussies, will soon be seen in action in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India at The Oval starting on Wednesday. Reflecting on his experience of playing all three formats of cricket, the New South Wales pacer spoke about the challenging journey often accompanied by physical discomfort and injuries, but expressed his gratitude for having reached where he is right now in his career.
“To play three formats for over 10 years, it’s been a lot of pain along the way, but I’m grateful I’ve gotten that far. Whilst I’ve tried to add to the bow, as soon as I lose air speed, there’s going to be someone chasing me,” added Starc.
Notably, Starc last played in the cash-rich league in 2015 for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Overall, he bagged 34 wickets in 27 matches in IPL with 4/15 being his best performance.
