The incident took place during the third over of Bangladesh’s innings. On the delivery after Afif Hossain hit him for a maximum, Afridi lost his cool. The left-armer picked up the ball in his follow-through and hurled it at the stumps while the batter was well inside his crease.
As a result, Hossain copped a blow on his leg, and the doctor was rushed on the field to check the youngster.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has shared a video on Twitter, where Shaheen can be seen apologising to Hossain after the conclusion of the game.
However, match referee Neeyamur Rashid has imposed a fine (15% of match fees) on Afridi for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The Pakistani seamer was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”
Also, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Afridi, for whom it was his first offence in the 24-month period.
In the second T20I, Pakistan registered a comprehensive 8-wicket win over the hosts and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The third and final T20I will take place at the same venue on Monday, November 22.
