Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Friday, named their stand-in captain in place of Tamim Iqbal for the upcoming home ODI series against India. BCB has been forced to appoint their 15th ODI skipper after regular captain Tamim Iqbal was ruled out from the series due to his groin injury.

Notably, Tamim picked up a groin injury in the warm-up game on November 30 and has now been advised two weeks of rest. In place of Tamim, the BCB have appointed opening batter Litton Das as the stand-in skipper.

Litton had earlier led the side in the shortest format after Mahmudullah was injured in New Zealand in 2021. He was also appointed as the vice-captain of the Bangladesh Test squad following Shakib Al Hasan’s re-appointment as Test skipper.

“Litton is one of the more experienced players in the side and has demonstrated leadership qualities. He has a sharp cricketing mind and reads the game well,” said Jalal Yunus, BCB cricket operation chairman, in a media release.

“It is most unfortunate to lose Tamim to injury for this very important series, especially because under his captaincy, the team has played some outstanding cricket in the last couple of years, and he has been our most prolific batsman in this format. He will be missed, but we also feel that Liton has the attributes to do a good job as captain,” Yunus added.

The three-match ODI series is set to begin on December 04 at Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Dhaka. The same venue will host the second ODI on December 07 before the action moves to Chattogram for the final match on December 10. This will follow the Test series, which is a part of the ICC World Test Championship, starting December 14.
