The incident, which took place in the final over of the Renegades’ innings, became the major talking point. It all happened when Zampa tried to inflict a run-out at the non-striker’s end while bowling the fifth ball of his over. The leggie stopped from his follow-through when he saw non-striker Rogers leaving the crease, and in a flash, he turned around and whipped off the bails.
The run-out attempt shocked one and all as the decision was referred to the third umpire, who interestingly ruled it in favour of the batter and termed him not out. On the basis of the video replays, the third umpire opined that Zampa had completed his bowling action when Rogers left the crease at the bowler’s end and hence, the run-out appeal didn’t stand.

After the controversy, the guardians of cricket laws, Marylebone Cricket Club(MCC), issued a clarification on the red-hot topic. MCC mentioned that once the bowler’s arm has passed the point at which he is normally expected to release the ball or the highest point in the delivery action, the non-striker can not get run out.
“The non-striker can be run out if he/she is out of his/her ground up until the moment the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball. That means when the arm gets to its highest point. The bowler is *not* entitled to go all the way around in the bowling action and then run the non-striker out,” MCC wrote on their official Twitter handle.
