Shakib opted out of Bangladesh’s last white-ball tour of Zimbabwe in July-August, and the tourists lost the ODI leg 2-1 in their former skipper’s absence. Now with a full-strength Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, visiting the country for the first time since 2015, Shakib is all set to play under the captaincy of Tamim Iqbal.
While left-arm spinner Taijul Islam makes way for Shakib, middle-order batter Yasir Ali has been included in the side as a like-for-like replacement for Mosaddek Hossain. In the fast-bowling department, Shoriful Islam has been left out, with Ebadot Hossain – who replaced Shoriful and made his debut in the third ODI against Zimbabwe – preferred in his place.
India unveiled their ODI squad for the Bangladesh tour last month and recently made changes to it after star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and young pacer Yash Dayal were ruled out due to injuries.
Bangladesh squad: Tamim Iqbal (c), Litton Das, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, Nasum Ahmed, Mahmud Ullah, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Nurul Hasan.
The first two ODI matches between Bangladesh and India will take place on December 4 and 7 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Dhaka. The third ODI, which was previously scheduled to be held on December 10 in Dhaka, has now been moved to the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chattogram on the same date.
