MS Dhoni opens up on his post-retirement plans

Following CSK’s victorious campaign in 2023, many anticipated that it would be Dhoni’s farewell season in the lucrative league. However, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter affirmed his commitment to the team and fans, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support. The veteran stumper is poised to lead CSK once again in the upcoming IPL season, aiming for another successful stint.

Addressing a fan’s inquiry about his post-cricket plans at a recent event, Dhoni acknowledged that he had not devoted much thought to life after cricket. Emphasizing his active status in the IPL, he revealed a desire to spend more time with the Indian Army, a commitment he had to sideline during his cricketing career.

“I have never thought about it. I am still playing cricket. IPL I am still playing. It will be very interesting to see what I end up doing after cricket. I think for sure, I want to spend a bit more time with the Army because the last few years I have not been able to do that,” Dhoni stated.

CSK’s failed attempt to replace Dhoni in 2022

CSK initially attempted to transition leadership by appointing Ravindra Jadeja as captain for the 2022 IPL season. However, the move proved unsuccessful as CSK struggled, failing at the bottom of the table with only one win in the first seven matches. Dhoni’s return in 2023 saw a dramatic turnaround, culminating in the team’s title victory over Gujarat Titans in the summit clash.

Having bid farewell to international cricket in 2020, Dhoni’s impact in the IPL has been monumental. Leading CSK to two IPL titles in 2021 and 2023, he shares the honor of being the most successful captain in IPL history, having lifted the trophy five times. His last appearance for Team India was in the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.
