Australia, England, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan and South Africa have qualified for the Super 12s. The top two teams from each group of the Super 12 stage will then progress to the knockout stages.
Ahead of the start of the marquee event, speculations are being made about who will win the tournament and cricket pundits have even started to predict the two teams that might reach the final.
West Indies legend Chris Gayle feels that Australia and West Indies will lock horns in the summit clash at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 13.
West Indies will have to first cross the hurdle of Round 1 to progress to the competition’s main draw.
“I think there could be a final match between West Indies and Australia,” said the Universe Boss while speaking to Dainik Jagran.
Gayle, who featured in all T20 World Cups till now, thinks that the absence of Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo will surely hit the West Indies young squad. However, he believes that the current bunch of players are talented and can prove to be dangerous for any team.
The southpaw added: “It will be very difficult for the West Indies team as the captain of the team is new and there is no Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and Bravo in the team.”
“Yes, it is definitely that the players who are included in the West Indies team are talented and can prove to be dangerous for any team. As everyone knows it is just a matter of adapting your strategy in the right way on match day. I hope the team plays well.”
West Indies have two T20 World Cup titles under their belt and would be hoping to clinch the third. They will kick start their campaign against Scotland on Monday (October 17).
