Connect! Unite! Act! is a weekly series encouraging the creation of face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups meet to socialize, support candidates, get out the vote, and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert maximum influence on the powers that be. Visit us every week to see how you can get involved!

Shew! What a year 2022 has been! If you’ve been following I’ve been putting together some of my best of 2022 in multiple categories, with more ahead, but in Connect! Unite! Act! How about we unite over something that brings every single one of us together: food and fun. Who doesn’t want to laugh, and who doesn’t enjoy eating something great? Those feelings cross faiths, cultures, expressions, and almost every barrier. People like the feeling of laughing with others and they enjoy the feeling of sharing some of themselves. So this week in Connect Unite Act, I thought I would share a few of the moments that made me laugh the hardest this year, a few of the foods I enjoyed the most, and a bit of the joy of a solid election cycle.

In a year where Republicans kept wanting to talk about gasoline, a product where we have to face the fact that the president does not control the final price, it was nice to see my price at the pump this morning to be lower than I can remember it at any point recently. In fact, at other places in the county, gas dropped below $2.50. The best laugh I’ve had? The fact that for all of the gas wars, nothing stopped Democratic wins at the ballot box. So with elections behind us, how about we enjoy some laughter!

Let’s face it, several of us spent time on TikTok sharing or watching others share cringe-worthy moments that turned into laugh out loud moments, and the rest of us found that unintentional humor from politicians who imploded all on their own.

Admittedly, former President Barack Obama is more generous than I would be, as former Georgia senatorial candidate Walker had a great college football career, but his pro football career was not great and he was part of one of the worst trades in NFL history. This isn’t a new assessment. The absolute disaster of the Walker trade was so bad it powered the Dallas Cowboys to dominance in the 1990s, and just decimated the Minnesota Vikings.

So, yeah. Hey, now he’s off a football field and out of politics we can all move on, so how about it? Can we just laugh? Every so often I love a good laugh that can just make me bust out and take a second to catch my breath. With the poor behavior of Elon Musk, I often think about this moment and smile—so, so big.

Sometimes, it’s just the ability to take the argument to people who need to hear it differently. When comedian Ben Palmer invaded a conservative group of parents protesting “CRT education” things went quickly sideways:

Nothing says standing in the way of critical race theory like a Days of Our Lives love triangle, right? We have to be ready to just sit back and laugh. Laugh hard. Things were tough under the Trump era, if nothing else we should be able to thank President Biden for his levity!
