Sourav Ganguly gives his verdict

Putting an end to the speculation, cricket legend and former India captain Sourav Ganguly has voiced his choice for Team India’s captain in the T20 World Cup 2024. Ganguly reckoned that Rohit should lead the side, asserting that Kohli should also be part of the team due to his exceptional skills.

“Of course, Rohit should captain the team in the T20I World Cup. Virat Kohli also should be there. Virat Kohli is an outstanding player, and nothing will happen (to his performance) after 14 months,” Ganguly stated, as quoted by Times of India.

Return of the senior duo

Notably, the T20I World Cup 2022 semifinal loss to England in November marked the last time Rohit and Kohli appeared in the shortest format for India. Nevertheless, they are set to make a comeback in the upcoming home T20I series against Afghanistan, having been included in the squad announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday.
