Notably, West Indies will be participating in an eight-team tournament in Zimbabwe starting from 18 June, with the aim of securing one of the two remaining spots for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup scheduled to take place in India later this year.
CWI has also granted permission to players who are currently playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to return to the Caribbean for a brief break before heading to Zimbabwe for the qualification tournament.
Bowling all-rounder Keemo Paul has been recalled to the outfit. Paul last represented West Indies in an ODI back in July last year. Similarly, Gudakesh Motie, who showed impressive performance during the team’s Test tour in Zimbabwe earlier this year, has also been named in the squad.
In order to prepare for the qualifiers, the West Indies will be playing a three-match ODI series against United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Sharjah on June 5th, 7th, and 9th. Due to some players being at the IPL, four uncapped players, namely Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge, Dominic Drakes, and Akeem Jordan, have been added to the UAE series squad.
