The list of retained players was missing some of the star performers of the last season, which obviously surprised fans.

The winner of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings, has recently released the list of their retentions ahead of the mega auction.

The retentions made by CSK were: Ravindra Jadeja (16 crores), MS Dhoni (12 crores), Moeen Ali (8 crores) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (6 crores).

South African star batter Faf du Plessis, who was the hero for CSK in the final and played some formidable innings with opener Ruturaj, was not retained by the franchise.

Also, the other star players like Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar found their names missing from the list. These players played a vital role in clinching the IPL trophy for CSK.

In the same light, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has revealed that the franchise will try to buy their ex-players back in the mega auctions.

We look forward to getting them back. For example, Faf has been a team man who has taken us to the finals of two important seasons. It will be our endeavor to go and try for him. But it’s not in our hands.” Vishwanathan said in a video released by the franchise.

We wish them all the very best wherever they are. We look forward to having a very good 2022.” He added,

When it comes to IPL 2021, Du Plessis scored a total of 633 runs in 16 matches at an average of 45.21. On the other hand, Shradul (21 wickets), Dwayne (14 wickets) and Deepak (14 wickets) were the leading wicket-takers for the franchise.
