Rohit Sharma breaks Kapil Dev’s 40-year-old record
The record, previously held by the iconic Kapil Dev, dates back to the 1983 World Cup when one of the greatest all-rounders in the world reached a century in 72 balls against Zimbabwe. Rohit’s knock to century includes a breathtaking display of power-hitting, studded with 11 fours and four colossal sixes, which left cricket enthusiasts in awe of his unparalleled skill. His innings concluded at 131 runs off 84 balls, with a total of 16 fours and 5 sixes.
By surpassing Kapil’s record, Rohit not only carved his name into history but also underscored his standing as one of India’s premier cricketing talents. The cricketing world stood witness to this extraordinary achievement, a testament to Rohit’s brilliance with the bat.

Some other milestones also gets demolished
But the records didn’t stop there. The current Indian skipper also claimed the title of the joint-fastest batter to reach 1,000 runs in World Cup history, sharing the honour with Australia’s David Warner, both achieving this milestone in just 19 innings. In addition, Rohit surpassed former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s World Cup run tally of 1,006 runs. With his third six in the innings, he even went on to surpass Chris Gayle‘s record for the most international sixes, totalling an impressive 553 sixes.
