South Africa achieved a remarkable victory, defeating Australia by a substantial margin of 134 runs in Match 10 of the ODI World Cup 2023, held at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday, October 12.

Under the leadership of Temba Bavuma, the South African team showcased a comprehensive performance, maintaining their winning streak after their earlier triumph against Sri Lanka in the tournament opener, clearly indicating their strong aspiration to secure their first-ever World Cup title.

South Africa put up a competitive total of 311/7 in their allotted 50 overs, setting a challenging target for Australia. Quinton de Kock was the star of the South African innings, exhibiting an exceptional display of power-hitting as he scored a brilliant 109 runs off 106 balls. His innings featured 8 fours and 5 sixes, setting the stage for a formidable total. Aiden Markram also made a significant contribution, notching up 56 runs off 44 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six.

Australia’s bowling attack, led by Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Glenn Maxwell, was persistent in their efforts. While they managed to pick up crucial wickets, South Africa still succeeded in posting a competitive total.

Chasing the target of 312 runs, the Australian batting lineup faced a challenging task. However, the Australian batters struggled to form substantial partnerships and cope with the impressive South African bowling attack. Marnus Labuschagne was the top scorer for Australia, contributing 46 runs off 74 balls, including 3 fours.

Kagiso Rabada was the standout performer with the ball for the Proteas, picking 3/33 runs in his 8 overs. Marco Jansen also played a pivotal role, securing 2 wickets for 54 runs. Lungi Ngidi, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi all contributed with crucial wickets.

Result​


Australia’s innings ended at 177 in 40.5 overs, falling well short of the target set by South Africa as they secured a convincing victory, winning by a significant margin.

Player of the Match​
