The best antidote to hot takes is hard data, and the latest Daily Kos/Civiqs poll is here with your cure. This survey of 1,464 registered voters was conducted online from May 8-11 and finds that most Americans support President Joe Biden’s proposal to provide free pre-kindergarten for all three and four year olds (61%) and two years of tuition-free community college for all (55%). To fund new government programs, 51% of Americans support raising taxes on corporations, and 52% support raising taxes on individuals who make over $400,000.

Other noteworthy findings in this month’s poll include:

  • 52% of Americans think the Medicare enrollment eligibility age should be lowered to 60 or younger.
  • Most Americans (57%) believe that Congress should set up a bipartisan, independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
  • Just 21% of Americans are satisfied with how law enforcement is responding to the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. 40% believe that the FBI should be arresting more perpetrators.
  • More than one in 10 (12%) of Americans have moved or plan to move because of the COVID-19 pandemic, including 19% of Americans aged 18-34.

Additional issues surveyed include closing the Guantanamo prison, support for school reopenings, and viewership of Fox News, Newsmax, One American News Network, and MSNBC.

This poll’s findings demonstrate that Biden’s policy proposals—and his recommendations for funding those proposals—have the support of the American people.

This month’s survey also provides strong evidence that frequent Fox News viewers are deeply disconnected from mainstream Americans. Despite the fact that 40% of Americans believe that more people should be arrested in response to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, 42% of frequent Fox News viewers think fewer people should be arrested. Just 6% of frequent Fox News viewers support raising taxes on corporations to fund new government programs, versus 51% of Americans overall.
