Tunbridge Wells, the bastion of Conservative England. Known for it’s beautiful countryside, vibrant town and high-performing schools, it’s no wonder it is both a popular and expensive place to live.

Less than an hour south of London, it’s a popular commuter zone for those who don’t fancy living in the city itself.

It’s been held by the Conservatives since the seats creation in 1974. Often dubbed ‘Tory Town’, it’s hard to believe it could ever be any other way. But, local council elections and national polls show that the Conservatives may be losing their way, and suggest that this constituency may no longer be theirs to keep at the next General Election.

This feature by Political Correspondent Alicia Fitzgerald, is part of Politics.co.uk’s new Electoral Battleground series, exploring seats across the UK with an interesting political history and assessing what the current situation looks like in the run-up to the next General Election.
