England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the upcoming third and final One-Day International (ODI) match against South Africa on Sunday due to an injury.

The Durham fast bowler sustained an injury to his right big toe during the opening game of the series at Chester-le Street on Tuesday. Carse, who has so far played nine ODIs for the English side, left the England squad on Saturday morning and will be further assessed over the coming week.

“Brydon Carse will miss Sunday’s third Royal London ODI in Leeds after suffering an injured right big toe during the series opener at Chester-le-Street,” said England Cricket in a statement on Twitter.

“Carse left the squad on Saturday morning and will be further assessed over the next week,” the statement added.

Carse didn’t play the recently-concluded second ODI, which England won by a massive margin of 118 runs to level the ongoing series. Notably, the hosts started the series with a 62-run defeat on Ben Stokes’s farewell game but made a spectacular comeback.

In a 29-over rain-curtailed match, England made 201 in 28.1 overs, thanks to valuable knocks by Liam Livingstone (38 off 26) and Sam Curran (35 off 18) down the order.

In reply, the tourists were bundled out for a mere 83, with only three batters scoring in double figures. Adil Rashid (3-29), Reece Topley (2-17) and Moeen Ali (2-22) produced phenomenal bowling display to help England set up a series decider at Leeds on Sunday.
