Due to rain, the final was reduced to a 20-over per side contest. England won the toss and elected to field first, halting India to a mere score of 129/7. Virat Kohli top-scored for India with 43 off 34 deliveries, while Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 33 off 25 balls. Shikhar Dhawan also contributed with 31 runs off 24 balls. Ravi Bopara was the standout bowler for England, picking up 3/20, while James Anderson, Stuart Broad, and James Tredwell picked one wicket each.
In reply, India’s bowlers put up an excellent performance to defend the target. They restricted England to 124/8, securing a victory in the summit clash. Umesh Yadav dismissed Alastair Cook early while Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ishant Sharma all made valuable contributions with two wickets each. In the final over, England needed 15 runs for victory, but Ashwin held his nerves and conceded only nine runs.

With that victory, India became the second team, after Australia, to win the Champions Trophy more than once. Additionally, the then Indian skipper MS Dhoni made history by becoming the first captain in men’s cricket to win all three ICC trophies in limited-overs cricket. Dhoni had previously led India to the 2011 World Cup triumph and the 2007 T20 World Cup victory.
Fans on Twitter expressed a mix of emotions as Team India completed a decade without winning an ICC trophy.

Since their triumph in the 2013 CT, India’s quest for another ICC trophy proved elusive. While they have enjoyed success in bilateral series and tournaments, securing another global title has remained a challenge. Nevertheless, their victory in the 2013 tournament stands as asignificant milestone in Indian cricket history.
