Out-of-favour Pakistani cricketer Fawad Alam has officially brought his international career to a close after more than 15 years of representing Pakistan internationally on the cricket field. The left-handed batter’s decision to step away from the Pakistan cricket team marks the end of an era in his journey.

However, the talented cricketer is now gearing up for a fresh start as he prepares to join the Chicago Kingsmen as a local player in the Minor League Cricket T20 that follows the recently concluded Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 competition in the United States.

Fawad’s cricketing journey with Pakistan:

It is worth mentioning that Fawad’s last appearance for Pakistan was in July 2022, during a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Subsequently, he was left out of the home series against England due to his below-par performance.

In his tenure representing Pakistan, Fawad contributed significantly to the team’s success. He made his debut in white-ball cricket in 2007 and went on to participate in 38 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 24 T20 Internationals (T20Is), amassing a total of 966 and 194 runs, respectively.

On the other hand, Fawad’s Test debut in July 2009 saw him become the first Pakistani cricketer to score a century on debut. He delivered many top-notch performances throughout his career and amassed a total of 1011 runs at an average of 38.88. His remarkable tally included five centuries and two half-centuries.

Apart from this, he accumulated impressive 14.000 runs in the domestic circuit in 201 first-class games. He was also a part of the T20 World Cup-winning team of Pakistan.

Not the first Pakistani player to move abroad for opportunities:

Fawad’s transition to the Chicago Kingsmen places him among a cohort of Pakistani cricketers who have chosen to explore new avenues abroad and especially in the USA. The 37-year-old joined the likes of Sami Aslam, Hammad Azam, Saif Badar and Mohammad Mohsin on the list.
