An FIR was registered at the Bandra Police Station in Mumbai against former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli on Sunday. He has been charged for allegedly abusing and assaulting his wife Andrea Hewitt in a heavily drunk state at their home in Bandra.

In her police complaint, Andrea said that her husband first verbally abused her and then threw the handle of a cooking pan at her due to which she suffered a head injury.

According to the reports, the incident took place between 1 pm and 1.30 pm on Friday. Andrea and Vinod’s son was also present at home at that time. The 12-year-old intervened in his parents fight, but Vinod, who was in an inebriated state, went into the kitchen, brought the handle of a broken frying pan and threw it on his wife after which she got injured.

Andrea later went to the Bhabha Hospital for medical examination.

The Bandra police registered an FIR against Vinod, based on his wife’s allegations, under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) and IPC 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).

Vinod and Andrea’s relationship

Vinod married Andrea at St. Peter’s Church in Bandra in 2014. The couple formalised their relationship with a court marriage years before finally tying the knot.

They welcomed a baby boy in 2010, who was named Jesus Christiano Kambli.

Notably, Andrea is Vinod’s second wife, and the former India batter converted to catholicism after his wedding. Vinod divorced his first wife Noella Lewis in 2005, after getting hitched together in 1998.
