Tracey Crouch has brushed off suggestions that an independent regulator would damage elite football in England, as she presented her findings of a review into football governance in the UK.

Following the botched attempt to create a European Super League, the government launched an independent fan led review of football governance, which Crouch chaired.

The former minister for sport published the report last month, calling for an independent regulator in English football.

Appearing in front of the digital, culture, media and sport committee, Crouch was asked by Conservative MP Steve Brine whether an independent regulator could ‘kill the golden goose of the world’s most successful league?’

The MP for Chatham and Aylesford argued the current system is “subject to vulnerabilities” and an independent regulator would encourage “growth and investment in English football”.
