The year 2022 witnessed quite a few T20I matches thanks to bilateral series between various sides and two major tournaments in the form of the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. This year’s first series was played between Ireland and West Indies, while the last was a Quadrangular Series held amongst associate nations – Malaysia, Bahrain, Qatar and Singapore.

Many batters rocked the charts with some memorable knocks, but a few were able to continue their consistent run-scoring throughout the year. Indian batting sensation Suryakumar Yadav attained the number 1 spot in the T20I rankings and also finished 2022 as the highest run-scorer.

The Pune-born cricketer played 31 T20Is and amassed 1164 runs at an impressive average of 46.56, with the help of two hundreds and nine half-centuries, including 117 being his best score. Like Surya, teammate Virat Kohli also gained attention as he found his lost mojo.

Kohli, in particular, got his form during the Asia Cup when he smashed his maiden century in the shortest format in a match against Afghanistan. The former India skipper showed his supreme class in the T20 World Cup, where he finished as the leading run-scorer. Overall, the right-handed batter finished 2022 as the third-highest run-getter with 781 runs to his name, including one century and eight fifties.
