Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has responded to senior journalist Rajat Sharma’s comments about his spat with Virat Kohli during an IPL match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Sharma referred to Gambhir as ‘egoistic and arrogant’ and said that his behaviour was not appropriate as a former player or MP.

“After winning elections and becoming the member of Parliament, Gautam Gambhir’s ego has increased. His jealousy towards Virat Kohli’s fame could be seen clearly. Virat Kohli is someone who always remains aggressive and doesn’t tolerate any nonsense and hence, he gave a befitting reply to Gautam Gambhir. But overall, Gambhir’s behaviour was against sportsmanship and it doesn’t suit a former player or a member of Parliament. Such incidents spoil the spirit of cricket and hence, this shouldn’t have happened,” Sharma said on India TV News.

In response, Gambhir has accused Sharma of selling PR in the name of news and criticized him for resigning from the post of DDCA President in the name of “pressure.”

On Wednesday, Gambhir took to Twitter and wrote: “Man who ran away from Delhi Cricket citing “pressure” seems over eager to sell paid PR as concern for cricket! यही कलयुग़ है जहां ‘भगोड़े’ अपनी ‘अदालत’ चलाते हैं।”

Following the LSG vs RCB match, a heated argument took place between Gambhir and Kohli, while other players tried to separate them.

This incident is not the first time that Gambhir and Kohli have had a public altercation. After an IPL match in 2019, Kohli famously called Gambhir “mentally unstable” after the latter criticized his captaincy skills.
