Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, a key figure in India’s T20I title triumph in the 2007 World Cup in South Africa, shares insights into the potential challenges in the form of tough contenders awaiting Team India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Team India eyes redemption in T20 World Cup 2024

Still grappling with the disappointment of their home defeat in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, Team India is gearing up for a new challenge as they prepare to embark on a journey to the West Indies and the United States of America (USA) for the T20 WC 2024 in June. This highly anticipated tournament will take place after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, bringing together 20 teams for an intense and competitive showdown.

In the previous edition of the T20 tournament, India faced a setback, being eliminated in the semi-final by England in Adelaide, with England ultimately clinching the title by defeating Pakistan in the final at the MCG. Now, Men in Blue will be eager to turn the tide and seek redemption on the world stage.

Gautam Gambhir reveals major threats for Indian Team

In a video released by ‘Thumsup’ on their official Instagram handle, Gambhir, alongside his former teammate Yuvraj Singh, discusses the favourites for the event and major threats for the Indian team in the 20-team tournament.

According to Gambhir, Afghanistan emerged as a surprise package and possesses the capability to challenge India, particularly in the unique conditions of the T20 World Cup. Additionally, he pointed to Australia, the 50-over World Champions and 2021 T20 World Cup winners, as a team that could pose significant challenges for India. Lastly, he underscored the reigning T20 champions, England, as formidable opponents due to their temperament in the shortest format of the game.

“Biggest Threat to India in T20 World Cup, Afghanistan in those conditions can be very dangerous, then Australia because they have got Impact players and England because they play T20 cricket as it should be,” Gambhir said.
