Gautam Gambhir on India's game changer in ODI World Cup 2023
After a month and a half of exciting cricketing action, the ODI World Cup 2023 has reached its business end with hosts India and Australia all set to take on each other in the all-important final. The summit clash will take place on November 19 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India’s all-round brilliance

Team India have shown outstanding display of all-round cricket and are still the only unbeaten team in the tournament. Positioned at the top of the points table, India have won all their 10 matches in the multi-team competition, including the semi-final against New Zealand.

Be it batting, bowling, and fielding, all the three departments played a massive role behind India’s consistent performance. Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, KL Rahul and other star players grabbed attention with their back-to-back impressive performances.

Gautam Gambhir picks India’s game changer

In light of these achievements, former India opener Gautam Gambhir has expressed his opinion on the standout player for the Men in Blue. Gambhir commended Shreyas Iyer and highlighted him as the key player for India in the upcoming final.

“Shreyas Iyer is the biggest game changer for me in this World Cup. He was injured and had to fight for his place, and to score a century in 70 balls in the knockout is simply outstanding. He’ll be the key for India in the final when Maxwell and Zampa bowl,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.

Consistent performance

Notably, Iyer scripted history in the semi-final clash against the Black Caps as he became the first middle-order batter to score more than 500 runs in a single edition of ODI World Cup.

In the ongoing event, Iyer has amassed 526 runs at an average of 75.14 and a strike rate of over 113. He has slammed two hundreds and three half-centuries and is the seventh-highest run-getter in the tournament so far.
