Although the Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) warned the team members not to share their Yo-Yo Test score after Virat Kohli‘s viral Instagram story that depicted his test level of 17.2 and termed it as confidential data, India’s young opener Shubman Gill‘s score was also leaked later and created a buzz among fans.
Shubman Gill surpasses Virat Kohli’s Yo-Yo Test score
It is worth mentioning that Gill surpassed Kohli’s score of 17.2 and touched an impressive 18.7 mark. The Punjab-born cricketer’s fitness standard became a major talking point on the internet. However, there were also many who didn’t take the Yo-Yo Test.

Five Indian cricketers who didn’t take the Yo-Yo Test
A report by PTI highlighted that a select group of players were excused from participating in the Yo-Yo Test. This list included prominent names such as Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and KL Rahul.
Here’s the reason why BCCI exempted a few Indian cricketers from undergoing Yo-Yo Test
The reason behind the exemption of Bumrah, Krishna, Tilak, and Samson stemmed from their recent Ireland tour. As these players recently returned from their overseas commitments, there exists an understanding that their current fitness levels are well within acceptable standards. The decision underscores the pragmatic approach taken by the team management and BCCI, allowing these cricketers to conserve their energy and focus on readiness for the imminent Asia Cup.
On the other hand, Rahul’s exclusion from the Yo-Yo Test was taken as the board and team physios didn’t want any risk of injury or exhaustion to the Karnataka cricketer.
