In the high-stakes spectacle of the IPL 2024 auction, Punjab Kings made headlines with their substantial acquisitions, delving deep into their pockets to secure top-tier talent. Among the notable additions to their squad were the seasoned Indian pacer Harshal Patel, who commanded a hefty sum of INR 11.75 crores, power-hitter Rilee Rossouw, acquired for a substantial INR 8 crores, and the versatile cricketer Chris Woakes, who fetched a significant sum of INR 4.8 crores.

However, amidst the flurry of financial activity, former cricketer AB de Villiers weighed in on the proceedings, expressing his opinion on a player from the PBKS whom he believes may be overpaid.

De Villiers expressed his opinion that all-rounder Sam Curran has been quite overpaid . He acknowledged that while Curran is not a bad player, he hasn’t performed exceptionally well in the last IPL season and for his national side (England).

“I don’t like to be controversial. But, in my opinion, he’s been overpaid for quite a few years now. He’s not a bad player; I like him. He’s had a fantastic World Cup, but that’s quite a few years back. I don’t think he’s had a very good IPL recently. Also, for England, he hasn’t played exceptionally well,” De Villiers said during a Q&A session on his YouTube channel.
