Ashwin, in particular, had a memorable outing during the second and final Test at Dhaka with bat and ball as he propelled India to clinch a thrilling three-wicket win and a series sweep over Bangladesh.
The Chennai-born cricketer bagged six wickets in the match and scored a crucial unbeaten 42 to help India successfully chase down 145 on a challenging batting track. Ashwin advanced one place to share fourth with compatriot Jasprit Bumrah on the list of bowlers headed by Australian skipper Pat Cummins. Ashwin has also closed in on teammate Ravindra Jadeja to acquire second place amongst all-rounders. Notably, Jadeja is at the top with a 369 rating, while Ashwin has 343 points.
Further, emerging Test batter Shreyas Iyer has also made notable gains in the rankings. Like Ashwin, Iyer too had a memorable outing in the Dhaka Test against Bangladesh. The right-handed batter smashed a brilliant 87 during the first innings and then played a mature knock during India’s chase, scoring an unbeaten 29 and supporting Ashwin as the duo drove the tourists to a narrow win. Iyer has jumped ten places to 16th overall on the list for Test batters which is owned by Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne.
While Ashwin and Iyer have shined in the rankings, former India skipper Virat Kohli has slipped two slots to the 14th spot after a disappointing show with the bat against Bangladesh. In four innings of the two Tests, Kohli had scores of 1, 19, 24 and 1.
Umesh Yadav, the veteran Indian pacer, has moved up five places to 33rd on the list for bowlers and jumped three spots to 48th among all-rounders after picking up a total of five wickets during the second Test against Bangladesh.
