The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the complete schedule and groups for the upcoming Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, scheduled to take place in the West Indies.

Sixteen countries will feature in the biannual tournament, including 48 matches. All the games will be played across four venues – St Kitts and Nevis (Warner Park), Guyana (Guyana National Stadium), Trinidad and Tobago (Brian Lara Cricket Ground) and Antigua & Barbuda (Brian Lara Cricket Ground) – from January 14 to February 5.

Defending champions Bangladesh are placed in Group A alongside Canada, England and the United Arab Emirates.

India, who were the runners-up in 2020, are in Group B with Ireland, South Africa and Uganda.

Afghanistan, Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea complete Group C, while hosts West Indies, Australia, Sri Lanka and Scotland form the last Group D.

New Zealand opted out of the multi-team tournament due to the mandatory quarantine restrictions they would have to face after returning home. So, Scotland have got the wildcard entry in place of New Zealand.

While unveiling the schedule, ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley said: “The ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup is such an exciting and special tournament, bringing together the future stars of the game and giving them an unrivalled experience of competing on the global stage.”

“So many of the best players have competed at the U19 Men`s Cricket World Cup including Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, Joe Root and Shimron Hetmyer and we are looking forward to the 2022 edition to see who emerges as the future stars,”
he added.
