India faces a penalty of 5 runs
Following an incident involving Ravindra Jadeja running on the pitch, which resulted in a warning from the umpires, Ashwin was observed committing a similar offense during the game. Ashwin’s actions, deemed as a breach of cricketing regulations, prompted the match officials to penalise India with 5 runs. So now, England will start their first innings at a score of 5/0 after bowling out India.

The incident unfolded during the opening session of Day 2. In the 102nd over of the Indian innings when England spinner Rehan Ahmed came into the attack, Ashwin looked to steal a quick single but was sent back by wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel. When Ashwin turned and returned back to his increase, the on-field umpire Joel Wilson gave India a massive shock. While returning the Indian stalwart actually ran on the danger of the pitch and what followed was his long discussion with the umpire.
