Rohit Sharma set a new record on Friday (February 10) by becoming the first Indian captain to hit a century across all three formats of international cricket. Rohit achieved the feat on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against Australia at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.

Rohit reached his hundred in 171 deliveries as he led India’s charge after the hosts bundled out the tourists for just 177 on the opening day of the match.

It was also Rohit’s maiden Test hundred against the Aussies and ninth overall. He got out soon after the tea break as opposite captain Pat Cummins sent his off-stump cartwheeling with the second new ball.

Rohit’s 345-minute vigil at the spin-friendly Nagpur surface fetched him 120 runs, and his knock was laced with 15 fours and two sixes.

In the meantime, Rohit’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, took to social media and congratulated her husband in a humorous manner.

“I love you @rohitsharma45 but send replacement fingers please,” Ritika captioned her Instagram story.

India grab huge lead

India have taken a first-innings lead of 223 to put themselves in the driving seat to go 1-0 up in the 2023 Border-Gavaskar series.

India were all-out for 400 just before lunch on the third day, with off-spinner Todd Murphy picking up two wickets in the morning session to finish with outstanding figures of 7/124.

The 22-year-old became the sixth Australian to bag seven or more wickets in his debut Test.

All-rounder Axar Patel was the last man to be dismissed, bowled by Pat Cummins for 84. Ravindra Jadeja, who ran through the Australian innings on day one with 5/47, smashed 70 runs with the bat.

No Australia batter could score a fifty when they were bowled out for 177 on Thursday, but the Indians were able to contribute from top to bottom.
