Ahead of the first T20I at the JSCA International Stadium, local boy Ishan Kishan had opened up regarding a few interesting things about himself, including the secret behind his national jersey. In a video shared by the BCCI on Twitter, Kishan revealed that he wanted to take the number 23 for his jersey, but it was already taken by the senior spinner Kuldeep Yadav, so he had to take the no. 32 for his India jersey.
The 24-year-old mentioned that he called his mother, and she asked him to take the 32 number, and after that, Kishan didn’t ask any questions.
“I actually asked for Number 23, but Kuldeep Yadav already got that number. So, I was supposed to take any other number. I called my mom, and she asked me to get 32. So, I didn’t ask any other questions and went for it,” narrated the Patna-born in the video.
Kishan also shared his opinion on his cricketing idol and revealed former India captain MS Dhoni was his role model. The explosive opener said he always wanted to fill the shoes of Dhoni, and he’s happy with what he has achieved. Kishan explained how he met Dhoni for the first time and got the autograph of the legendary cricketer.
“My favourite cricketing idol while growing up was MS Dhoni. Coming from the same place, me also playing for Jharkhand. So, I really wanted to fill his shoes, and now that I’m here, I’ll make sure that I make my team win so many games. The first autograph that I had asked for was from MS Dhoni when I was 18 years old, and I finally saw him for the first time. It was a dream come true for me and the most memorable moment for me, and it still is. I am proud to have his autograph on my bat,” added Kishan.
