A similar episode took place during the second T20 International (T20I) between India and New Zealand at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Friday.
A fan breached the security barrier and came running down straight to India T20I skipper Rohit Sharma while he was fielding. The fan tried to touch Rohit’s feet, but the Mumbaikar maintained a distance from him considering the challenging COVID-19 times.

Notably, Rohit got off to a tremendous start in his latest role with the ‘Men in Blue’ sealing the series with a victory in the second game of the ongoing three-match series against the Black Caps.
After putting into bat first in the contest, New Zealand posted 153/6 on the board in their allotted 20 overs. Glenn Phillips (34 off 21), Martin Guptill (21 off 15) and Daryl Mitchell (31 off 28) made valuable contributions to help their side reach a respectable total.
In reply, India chased down the target in 17.2 overs with seven wickets in hand, thanks to the blistering half-centuries from Rohit and KL Rahul. The Indian openers put together a dominating stand of 117 runs for the opening wicket. While Rahul scored 65 off 49 balls with the help of eight boundaries, Rohit smashed 55 from 36 deliveries, including five sixes.
“Great effort from the entire unit. Wasn’t the easiest of conditions, but the way we applied ourselves was amazing. We showed great application and temperament. The quality of the bench has been amazing. They have been performing consistently whenever they get the chance,” said Rohit at the post-match presentation.
