Ishan Kishan takes Anrich Nortje to the cleaners
Ishan Kishan put out an impressive show in the recently concluded second One-Day International (ODI) of the ongoing three-match series against South Africa at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday.

Kishan formed a match-winning partnership of 161 runs with Shreyas Iyer for the third wicket, helping the Men in Blue chase down 279 to level the series. He reached his half-century off 60 balls and looked well set to get his maiden ODI century. However, luck didn’t favour the left-handed batter as he eventually got caught at deep mid-wicket and missed the triple-figure score by just 7 runs.

Though, Kishan ensured to entertain the Ranchi crowd with his fireworks on Sunday night. He smashed 4 fours and 7 humungous sixes in his eye-catching knock. During his dazzling batting display, Kishan gained a lot of attraction when he took Anrich Nortje to the cleaners, hitting the South African pacer for two back-to-back maximums.

It all happened in the 32nd over of India’s chase when Kishan decided to go on the full monty. On the third delivery, Nortje came round the wicket and bowled a short delivery. The left-handed batter backed himself and crunched the short-pitched ball that went for a 92-metre maximum over the mid-wicket region.

On the very next delivery, Nortje bowled a 145ks half-volley, targeting the stumps of the batter. Kishan, who was already in his zone, cleared his front leg and hammered the white leather deep into the mid-wicket stands for another humungous six.

Riding on Kishan’s 93 and Shreyas Iyer’s 113, India won the contest by 7 wickets. After the match, Kishan spoke about his knock and said it was unfortunate that he missed on the century but was happy to see his side registering the much-needed victory.

“Unfortunate that I missed on the hundred, but happy that my team won the game. It was not easy for a new batsman to score runs. It was a matter of putting the pressure on the other team also, that we are ready to put away if they missed their mark. I was looking to pull whenever the ball was near my chest but didn’t premeditate,” said Kishan after the game.
