Batting first, India put up a mammoth total of 390/5 in their allotted 50 overs. Virat Kohli 166 (110) smashed his 46th ODI ton and second in the series. Virat was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his brilliant knock.
Shubman Gill (116) also shined with the willow for the Men in Blue. Meanwhile, pacers Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara picked two wickets each for the visitors.
In reply to India’s daunting total, Sri Lanka failed miserably and got bundled out for just 77 in only 22 overs. Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj took four wickets in his quota of 10 overs and helped India register a record win against Sri Lanka. Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav also picked two wickets each.
In the 15th over of the second innings, Kuldeep bowled an absolute ripper of a delivery to dismiss Dasun Shanaka. On the last ball of the over, the left-arm chinaman produced a turning ball that went from outside-off to straight onto the stumps. Shanaka seemed clueless as he failed to defend the ball and was cleaned up.

Notably, Kuldeep had also picked up the wicket of Shanaka in the second ODI at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
With the thumping win in Thiruvananthapuram, India whitewashed Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series. Kohli was adjudged ‘Player of the Series’ for his exceptional performance.

Meanwhile, India will next lock horns with New Zealand in the upcoming series starting on January 18 in Hyderabad.
