Shining bright in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Axar was handed the Test cap by Virat Kohli in February last year. Axar has played a total of five Test matches and has already taken 36 wickets, including five 5-wicket hauls.
Axar was retained by his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) for the upcoming season. Runners-ups in the 2020 edition of the cash-rich league, DC have kept skipper Rishabh Pant, opener Prithvi Shaw, fast bowler Anrich Nortje and all-rounder Axar in their retention list ahead of the mega auction.
Axar was ruled out of the ongoing India tour of South Africa after he suffered a stress fracture. The upcoming home series against the West Indies also seems doubtful for the spinner, so it will be interesting to see when he makes a comeback on to the field.
