Shubman Gill on his 100 vs MI
Widely considered as the next big thing in Indian cricket, Shubman Gill gave another glimpse of his exceptional talent and skills as the star batter from Gujarat Titans (GT) smashed a jaw-dropping century in the do-or-die Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday.

Shubman commenced his innings steadily, reaching 20 runs off 15 balls initially. However, once he settled in, the right-handed batter launched an assault on the MI bowlers taking them to the cleaners. Shubman reached his half-century in the 10th over, taking only 33 balls and then accelerated his scoring even further. He began hitting boundaries consistently, taking just 16 more deliveries to reach a splendid triple-figure score.

It was the third century for the Punjab-born cricketer and even after reaching the milestone, he continued his aggressive onslaught. Shubman eventually amassed an impressive 129 runs off just 60 balls before getting dismissed. His exceptional innings included 7 fours and 10 sixes, propelling the GT to a massive total of 233/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Speaking about his stupendous knock in the post-match presentation, Shubman reckoned it was probably his best batting effort in the cash-rich league. He said: “Expectations are something that follow you outside the ropes, but once you step on the field it is all about trying how to contribute for the team. I think this was probably my best innings so far in the IPL.”

The 23-year-old revealed that focusing on particular technical aspects and making a minor adjustment prior to a T20 series in New Zealand following the T20 World Cup in Australia, has had a remarkable impact on his performance.

“From the last West Indies tour (2022), I think I have shifted a gear, I got injured before the last IPL but I have been working on my game. I have worked on a few areas and made technical changes ahead of the NZ series after the T20 World Cup,” added Shubman.
