Williamson has returned to New Zealand and will be seen by relevant medical specialists to establish a treatment plan, according to NZC.
“It is sad to lose Kane to injury so early in the tournament. We wish him a speedy recovery, with the hope of seeing him in action very soon,” GT’s director of cricket Vikram Solanki, said in his official statement.
On Tuesday (April 4) evening, the Gujarat management named Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for injured Williamson.
Shanaka, the Sri Lankan captain for white-ball cricket, is a dynamic all-rounder who can bat in the middle order and bowl right-arm seam. In the recent T20I series against India, Shanaka scored 124 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 187 and an average of 62.00. He was also Sri Lanka’s highest run-scorer in the subsequent ODI series, with 121 runs in three innings.
Shanaka has been signed by GT for his base price of INR 50 lakh, and this will be his debut season in the IPL.
