Rajasthan Royals (RR) locked horns with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 37th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday (April 27). RR emerged victorious in the high-scoring encounter by 32 runs.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Rajasthan posted a mammoth total of 202/5 in their allotted 20 overs courtesy of a brilliant 77-run knock from Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-handed opener smashed twelve boundaries in his 43-ball inning, including four sixes. Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal also chipped in with valuable contributions of 34 and 27 runs for RR. Meanwhile, Tushar Deshpande picked two wickets for CSK.

During the Rajasthan inning also took place a rare incident where Chennai skipper MS Dhoni lost his cool and yelled at his bowler Matheesha Pathirana. It all happened on the third ball of the 16th over when Shimron Hetmyer misjudged a slower bouncer from Pathirana, and the ball went straight to Dhoni behind the stumps deflecting off Hetmyer’s body.

As soon as the RR batter attempted a run, Dhoni quickly collected the ball and released a rocket arm throw towards the bowler’s end. However, the white leather failed to hit the stumps as Pathirana stood midway of the throw and ended up blocking it. The former India captain was left boiling by the act of a young Sri Lankan pacer and expressed his disappointment by yelling at him in anger.

Coming back to the match, CSK failed miserably in the run chase and fell 32 runs short of the target. Although Ruturaj Gaikwad (47)) gave a good start to the team, they struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Shivam Dube‘s quickfire 52 off 33 balls for CSK also went in vain as the Chennai-based side ended their innings at 170/6 and eventually lost the contest.

On the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin and Adam Zampa were the stars with the ball for Rajasthan, taking two and three wickets, respectively. Yashasvi was declared the ‘Player of the Match’ for his match-winning knock that set up the victory for RR.
