Wanindu Hasaranga runs out Sam Curran
The 27th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) took place between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Thursday.

The hosts failed to chase down the target of 175 from the touring party after getting bundled out for 150 in 18.2 overs, losing the contest by 24 runs. The PBKS chase was impacted by some excellent fielding exhibitions from the Challengers, with two run-outs taking place.

Sam Curran, who was once again leading Punjab in the absence of regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan, had a disappointing outing both with the ball and bat. Curran failed to pick up any wicket in his 4-over spell, where he conceded 27 runs before getting run out for just 10 courtesy of Wanindu Hasaranga’s tremendous throw.

It all happened during the 10th over bowled by Vijaykumar Vyshak when the pacer pinned the yorker outside off, and Curran squeezed it wide of backward point before rushing through for a quick single. However, Hasaranga was quick to latch on and sent in a bullet-like throw, and Curran was caught short at the bowling end.

Earlier, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli powered RCB to a big total. Both players shined with the bat and added 137 runs for the opening wicket. While Kohli smashed 59 from 47 balls, Du Plessis slammed 84 off just 56 deliveries, including five fours and as many sixes.

“I thought we bowled well as a group. Credit to Faf and Virat for the way they played, but I think we didn’t let them get away, but we were not good enough with the bat. They bowled well, but we lost far too many wickets and a couple of run-outs as well. We’ll probably look back at a couple of dismissals and regret,” said Curran after the game.
