Axar Patel's stunning catch in DC vs GT match
In the 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Delhi Capitals (DC) emerged victorious over Gujarat Titans (GT). Being asked to bat first, DC posted 224 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, fueled by notable innings from Axar Patel (66 off 43) and Rishabh Pant (88 off 43).

In response, GT showcased resilience, compiling a total of 220 for the loss of 8 wickets, but ultimately fell short of the win by 4 runs. The GT batters, particularly Sai Sudarshan (65 off 39), David Miller (55 off 23), and Rashid Khan (21 off 11), had nearly clinched the victory with their crucial contributions.

Amidst the stellar batting performances, a particular moment stole the limelight and went viral on the internet. This incident unfolded in the 10th over of GT’s innings when Axar Patel leapt high in the air to execute a stunning catch, dismissing Gujarat batter Wriddhiman Saha.

Axar Patel’s jaw-dropping catch leaves fans in awe

Kuldeep Yadav came to bowl the 10th over of the game against GT. On the fourth delivery of his over, he bowled wide half-tracker outside the off-stump to Saha. The GT opener aimed to dispatch the ball over the fielders but couldn’t achieve the desired elevation. Seizing the opportunity, Axar, stationed at covers, soared into the air, securing a spectacular catch to dismiss the set batter.

Axar’s 100th catch

The catch that dismissed Saha marked the Delhi all-rounder’s 100th catch. In addition to reaching this significant milestone, Axar achieved another feat in the match by becoming the fourth DC player to score a fifty, take a wicket, and a catch in the same IPL match. Prior to him, only JP Duminy, Paul Collingwood, and Virender Sehwag had accomplished this rare feat.
