While various reports have suggested that Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are prime contenders to lead the side, experts have also picked few other names who could take the prime responsibility. Many cricket pundits reckoned that the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah are some other choices that can be considered to lead the team.
Meanwhile, Bumrah has shared his thoughts over the possibility of becoming the captain of the Test team. The Ahmedabad-born said it would be an ‘honour’ to lead the Indian Test side but also mentioned that he is ready to contribute in whichever manner required.
“For me, I am ready to contribute in whichever manner I can be it in the post or otherwise. If given the opportunity, it’s an honour, but if not, then also I will try to do whatever is required to the best of my ability. My focus is to do well,” Bumrah told reporters ahead of the ODI series, starting Wednesday.
Notably, Bumrah was the vice-captain in the second Test against South Africa when Kohli was ruled out of the match due to a back injury, and Rahul had led the Indian troops. The right-armer asserted that the approach of assisting his teammates comes naturally to him, and he will keep doing that in future as well.
“I look at this situation in the same manner…taking responsibility and talking to players and helping them out has always been my approach, and it will always be my approach going further, keeping any situation in mind,” added Bumrah.
