Keir Starmer appointed his cabinet on Friday afternoon, with the prime minister’s picks largely mirroring his top team in opposition.
The one exception is the inclusion of Lisa Nandy as culture secretary. Nandy’s appointment came after Thangam Debbonaire, who served as shadow secretary of state for culture, lost her Bristol Central seat to new Green MP and party co-leader Carla Denyer.
Nandy served most recently as the shadow minister for international development in opposition.
Starmer also appointed Angela Rayner as deputy prime minister and levelling up secretary. Rayner was elected by the Labour membership to serve as the deputy leader of the party in 2020, alongside Starmer as leader.
