Mary Simon Appointed as Canada’s First Indigenous Governor General

Mary Simon was named by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as Canada’s next governor general. Her appointment came as Canada reckons with the discovery of hundreds of unmarked Indigenous graves, mostly children on the sites of former church-run schools.
