The MI New York has signed a lethal bowling trio for the upcoming Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 that commences from July 13 in Dallas. A total of six teams will compete in the maiden three-week tournament, of which four sides are associated with the franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Notably, MI New York is also one among them and is a sister franchise of Mumbai Indians (MI), which is owned by the Reliance Group.

MI New York recently unveiled a power-packed bowling trio in their star-studded squad for the marquee event that features Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada and Trent Boult. This will be the second time Rashid and Rabada will play under the MI franchise, as they have previously represented MI Cape Town in SA20. Meanwhile, it will be the third opportunity for Boult to be part of MI, having played for them in IPL and ILT20 in the past.

Other notable inclusions in the MI New York squad include Nicholas Pooran, Tim David, Dewald Brevis and Jason Behrendorff. Meanwhile, the team in the marquee event will be captained by Kieron Pollard.

It is also worth mentioning that veteran South Africa player Robin Peterson has been appointed as the head coach of the MI New York, with Lasith Malinga selected for the bowling coach’s role. In the meantime, J Arunkumar and James Pamment will be the batting and fielding coaches, respectively.

The owner of the MI franchise, Akash Ambani, spoke about the team combination ahead of the event and said he’s confident about his team performing well.

“It is an extraordinary line-up of youth, experience, and power. Further, we have exciting talent in the form of Tim David and Brevis, while Jason Behrendorff and David Wiese are proven performers. Combined with the exceptional skills of our local US players, we are confident that MI New York will raise the bar of competition in the cricket ecosystem of the US,” said Akash in a statement.

The MI New York acquired the services of a few players in the draft held in March as well. The MI sister franchise roped in current USA captain Monank Patel, Steven Taylor, Nosthush Kenjige, Shayan Jahangir and Kyle Phillip back then.
